Busting Three Common Myths About Dog Kennels

October 26, 2016

As a pet owner, you know how difficult it can be bringing your dog to the kennel, especially if you are uncertain about the level of service offered and whether or not your dog’s needs are being met. And all of the common misconceptions out there can make matters worse! Read on to learn more about these myths to ensure you choose the right kennel next time you require boarding services.

  • Clean kennels should “smell fragrant” – not true! – Entering a kennel that smells like fragrance does not necessarily mean that it is clean. It can, however, mean that the employees are trying to mask a smell. A clean and sanitary environment should actually smell clean; like the cleaning products used to disinfect and scrub the area.
  • A place with great reviews must have great security – A kennel can have positive reviews and even fantastic accommodations, but at the end of the day, the security options available should meet your dog’s particular needs. For example, if your dog is able to jump a fence, you will need to source out a kennel that is properly equipped with the right security features to prevent this situation from occurring.
  • Price is important, but for a good reason. If you opt for a kennel that offers cheap prices, keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Cheap prices may mean poor quality food and services. It’s wise to look for a kennel that offers affordable, yet competitive prices; one that does not compromise on quality for cost. Ultimately, you want to ensure you choose a kennel that properly cares for your animal, emotionally and physically.
